Wind is the plein air painter's most persistent adversary. Rain you can wait out. Harsh sun you can shade. But wind is relentless, invisible, and has a particular talent for arriving the moment you've mixed the perfect color and loaded your brush.
A gust doesn't just knock over your easel. It vibrates your panel, dries your paint faster, blows grit into wet surfaces, and makes the entire experience tense rather than meditative. You can't eliminate wind outdoors, but you can manage it well enough to paint through conditions that send unprepared painters home.
Understanding Wind as a Force Problem
